French press coffee machines, also known as cafetières, are the least complicated of all coffee machines. Coffee grounds are placed at the bottom of the glass carafe and boiling water is poured over the grounds. A metal plunger with a filter attached is fitted at the top of the carafe and the user pushes down on the plunger, which pushes all the coffee grounds down and contains them at the bottom of the container. Coffee is poured straight from the carafe to the cup.
